Stepping out of the rat race of corporate life and leaving behind the endless to-do lists, projects, and the constant pull in a million directions has allowed me to slow down my life. Living slower felt wrong in the beginning, like I was forgetting something or not doing enough. I had to actively work on deregulating my nervous system and rewiring my brain. After years of waking up and immediately playing Tetris with my time, trying to fit the absolute most into a single 24-hour day, it took a conscious effort to stop operating on autopilot.
When you step out of that lane, life becomes slower in the best way. Your actions become more intentional, more thoughtful. You no longer choose what to do based on someone else’s needs or expectations, but based on what you want to do. This shift—from constantly reacting to doing things just because they bring you joy—brings a kind of freedom to your brain, your heart, and your soul that’s nothing short of profound.
Now, I find joy in the smallest things—things I used to overlook or rush through. The simple beauty of a drive with no destination, just the journey itself. The peace I feel in doing something as small as making my morning coffee without worrying about the next thing on my to-do list. The joy of simply sitting in stillness. These moments of slowness have become extraordinary because I’m no longer moving so fast that I miss them.
This isn’t something that happened overnight. I had to unlearn the mindset that “busy” equaled productive, that I needed to constantly be achieving something or checking a box. Letting go of that pressure allowed me to reconnect with myself in a way I hadn’t experienced in years. I’ve realized that life isn’t about how much you can get done in a day, but how much you can actually experience in a day. It’s about the moments you let in, the beauty you allow yourself to see, and the peace you create for yourself.
I encourage everyone to take a moment and reflect on how your life is structured right now. Are you moving through your days simply checking things off a list? Or are you leaving space for yourself to truly live—to enjoy, to be present, to experience joy? It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but I’ve learned that slowing down doesn’t mean falling behind. It means living more intentionally, with more purpose, and with more heart.
